The Pearl River Navigation Administration of the Ministry of transport announced at a press conference held on the 5th that Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou and Yunnan provinces (autonomous regions) of the Pearl River system are expected to complete 1.454 billion tons of Waterway Freight in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 5.1%. The economic situation of water transportation in the Pearl River has maintained an overall stable trend.
In 2021, the port throughput of the Pearl River system also achieved a certain increase in various main indicators. The port completed a cargo throughput of 1.879 billion tons, a foreign trade cargo throughput of 527 million tons and a container throughput of 68.43 million TEUs, with a year-on-year increase of 3.3%, 9.4% and 4.7% respectively.
2021 is a very severe year for the navigation situation of Xijiang shipping trunk line in recent years. The superposition of adverse factors such as large-scale meteorological drought, the construction of channel regulation project from the lower dam of Changzhou hub to the first section of Wuzhou boundary, and the sporadic distribution of covid-19 pneumonia has brought great challenges to the waterway transportation production of Xijiang shipping trunk line. The circular said that the Zhuhai Shipping Bureau actively strengthened communication and coordination with water conservancy, electric power, port and shipping, maritime and other units to ensure the demand for shipping water. In 2021, the cargo throughput of Changzhou hub lock of Xijiang shipping trunk line was 152 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.8%.
