“Five years ago, the hot topic was’ artificial intelligence ‘. At that time, it was thought that machines could create intelligence. Artificial intelligence should be the last story of IDC industry. The rest should be left to machines to invent and create, but now there is an artificial universe with a higher dimension than artificial intelligence.” He Baohong, director of the Institute of cloud computing and big data of the Chinese Academy of communications, said at the 16th annual ceremony of China’s IDC industry (idcc2021) held on December 21.
He Baohong believes that from the perspective of technology and industry, the meta universe currently “raises more questions than answers”. The realization of the meta universe not only depends on ideas, but also needs a clear technology achievement time point.
He Baohong further pointed out that in the course of studying the Internet for more than 20 years, he has experienced generation after generation of “next generation Internet”, some of which have succeeded and some have failed. The meta universe is only one of them and will not become the “end of the Internet”.
Energy, computing power and digitization are the core problems to be solved in the development of IDC industry.
Huang Chao, founder and CEO of China IDC circle, said that as an important part of the new infrastructure, the data center has received unprecedented attention under the background of accelerating the deployment of the development of Digital Economy: first, the proportion of clean energy use continues to increase, and energy efficiency has become the core competitiveness of the data center; Second, high computing power support will become an important goal of data center development; Third, enabling digital transformation and application-oriented will become the premise of data center construction.
Liang Yan, senior vice president of Wanguo data design and operation center, said that the data center industry is currently facing five major challenges: first, the rise of customer self construction; Second, the influx of cross-border capital; Third, the energy consumption pressure brought by the double carbon policy; Fourth, the tidal limit in specific areas; Fifth, the continuing challenges posed by the epidemic.
Under the “double carbon” goal, the data center is also facing great pressure to reduce consumption and carbon. Wanguo data is the first data center enterprise that promises to achieve carbon neutrality and 100% use of renewable energy by 2030. Liang Yan said that climate change and social issues have attracted increasing attention. Enterprises must be responsible for the environment in the process of growth, and enterprise development needs to adhere to long-term ism, which is consistent with ESG. “E” is related to energy, In the short term, it will increase the cost of enterprises, but in the long term, with the operation and improvement of the carbon trading market, the early layout of green and low-carbon technologies will obtain greater benefits.
In recent years, the demand of Chinese overseas enterprises for IDC services is also increasing day by day. Large Internet companies are doing overseas layout. Yu Jiemin, vice president of Wanguo data, said that agile delivery, green low-carbon and intelligent operation are the common requirements of enterprises for data centers. There are two main ways to meet the needs of enterprises going to sea. One is to build a platform first, similar to the multi tenant technology model. For example, Singapore has established such an ecosystem; Another way is to provide full life cycle services, which requires sufficient human support and rapid internal scheduling capability.
“Of course, to provide overseas data center services, we also need to understand local regulations and policies, which is very important for overseas enterprises.” Liang Yan said.
Under the new situation, the IDC industry will also usher in new opportunities. Liang Yan believes that these opportunities will be mainly reflected in five aspects: first, hard core enterprises strongly supported by the state are rising, and these emerging industries will become new customers of the data center industry; Second, the price competition has slowed down, and the industry is returning to the healthy development direction dominated by rationality; Third, the growth of overseas demand is a good opportunity for IDC operators; Fourth, the traditional operation and SLA guarantee are still the advantages, and technology, service and security are still the rational choices of customers; Fifth, it is brand value. If enterprises want to reflect brand value, they need to have the concept of long-term ism.
