[Securities Times] according to the report of Polaris power network, the national development and Reform Commission, in response to the suggestions and relevant opinions of deputies to the National People’s Congress on promoting the development of pumped storage power stations, pointed out that pumped storage power stations are the main regulating power supply of the power system and play an important role in ensuring power safety, promoting the consumption of clean energy sources and improving the performance of the power system. The national development and Reform Commission will organize relevant provinces to negotiate and determine the sharing proportion of capacity electricity charges, so as to better meet the actual needs of relevant provinces and give full play to the comprehensive benefits of pumped storage power stations.
Comments: pumped storage is the most mature energy storage method with large capacity and low cost per kilowatt hour. It is of great significance for peak shaving and valley filling, load smoothing and rapid adjustment of power grid frequency. With the continuous increase of the proportion of new energy installed capacity, the State supports and encourages the construction of pumped storage power stations, which has a huge space for development in the future. In September 2021, the National Energy Administration officially announced the medium and long term development plan for pumped storage (2021-2035) , it is clearly proposed that by 2025, the total scale of pumped storage put into operation will be more than 62 million KW; By 2030, the total production scale will be about 120 million KW; By 2035, the total installed capacity is expected to reach 305 million KW. By the end of 2020, the installed capacity of pumped storage in China is about 31 million KW, and pumped storage power stations are expected to see a 9-fold growth in the next 15 years.
