On February 25, 2022, Huitian Network Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Huitian network”) and Huawei Digital Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Huawei digital energy”) signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Beijing. Adhering to the development concept of “green and low-carbon”, based on the new power system with new energy as the main body and the national “double carbon” goal, the two sides will integrate advanced green energy-saving innovative technologies in the data center, and jointly take the lead in building the world’s largest green zero carbon data center of “source, network, load and storage”.
According to the implementation plan for implementing the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality and promoting the green and high-quality development of new infrastructure such as data center and 5g issued by the national development and Reform Commission, the central network information office, the Ministry of industry and information technology and the national energy administration, on the basis of realizing green and high-quality development of data center and 5g, we will comprehensively support the digital transformation and upgrading of various industries, especially traditional high energy consuming industries, Help achieve the overall goal of carbon peak and lay a solid foundation for carbon neutralization.
However, with the rapid development of digital economy and the continuous requirements for digital transformation and upgrading, the power consumption of data center has also attracted much attention. It is estimated that computers, data centers and networks will consume about 10% of global power in 2018, of which active terminals and data centers will consume 30% respectively. In addition, according to the prediction of the State Grid Energy Research Institute, by 2030, the power consumption of China’s data center will exceed 400 billion kwh, accounting for 3.7% of the power consumption of the whole society.
Yang Meiling, chairman of Huitian network, said that the framework cooperation agreement reached between Huitian network and Huawei data center energy corps, on the one hand, actively responds to the goal of national digital economy construction and development, accelerates and stabilizes the construction, expansion and operation of the data center, and lays the foundation for building a series of global leading benchmark projects of source network charge storage green power data center; On the other hand, regard the “double carbon” policy as an important indicator, adhere to Modularity + intelligence, and work together to build a more energy-saving and low-carbon data center.
On May 26, 2021, the national development and Reform Commission and other four departments issued the implementation plan of the computing hub of the collaborative innovation system of the national integrated big data center, which proposed to promote the green and sustainable development of the data center, accelerate the R & D and application of energy-saving and low-carbon technologies, improve energy efficiency and reduce the energy consumption of the data center.
Yang Yougui, senior vice president of Huawei and CEO of Huawei data center energy corps, also said that jointly building the world’s largest zero carbon data center will open up a new path for the construction of data centers in the future. For example, with green power access such as wind power and photovoltaic, the data center will use 100% clean energy for power supply in the future, which will play an exemplary role in the innovation of China’s data center construction mode and 100% green power supply, and provide reference experience for the sound and rapid construction of green data center under the background of “double carbon” and “East digital West computing”.
It is reported that the two sides will also jointly invest in advantageous resources, such as joint research on the innovative model of more efficient green power + data center, application of source network load storage solutions, and comprehensive cooperation in improving the proportion of green power in Internet Data Center (IDC) and new energy consumption, so as to jointly lead the trend of global green and low-carbon data center.
