CISA: China’s actual steel demand in 2022 is expected to basically maintain the level of last year

According to CISA, on the afternoon of February 16, he Wenbo, executive president of China Iron and Steel Industry Association, held a video conference with Edwin Basson, director general of the world iron and Steel Association. The two sides exchanged views on the situation of China and the global steel industry, the key work of the industry in 2022, and the future cooperation direction and content of the two associations.

Bason introduced the development of the global steel industry since the outbreak. He pointed out that the steel industry is one of the few industries that have successfully overcome the impact of the epidemic, and China has made positive contributions to the stable development of the global steel industry. Over the past two years, all major economies have taken measures to stimulate economic development, infrastructure upgrading, strong growth in the construction industry, stimulating steel demand, and the steel industry has achieved good economic benefits. In the future, the development focus of the world’s iron and steel industry will shift to green and low-carbon. The world iron and Steel Association will actively adapt to this change, study the low-carbon development policies of various countries, promote the global R & D projects of low-carbon steel technologies such as hydrogen metallurgy, and expand the application of steel by making good use of platforms such as building steel alliance.

He Wenbo introduced the operation of China’s iron and steel industry in 2021. He pointed out that great changes had taken place in the global and China’s economic situation in 2021. China’s iron and steel industry generally operated well. Under the circumstances of drastic changes in the market, it maintained a basic balance between supply and demand, significantly improved the overall benefits, made progress in mergers and acquisitions, continued to promote green and low-carbon, and further improved the industry’s image. In 2022, China’s economy will maintain the basic trend of seeking progress while maintaining stability. With the introduction and implementation of various steady growth measures, the actual steel demand will become clearer and clearer, and it is expected to basically maintain the level of last year. He Wenbo said that after the test of rare market turmoil in 2021, he has more confidence in China’s Steel’s ability to adapt to market changes and the prospect of future development. At the same time, the economic development of China and the world will face multiple risks, and China’s iron and steel is bound to face multiple tests. As an industry organization, CISA will pay close attention to and focus on the following industrial topics: first, how to further enhance the flexibility of the steel supply system with the goal of balancing supply and demand; Second, how to effectively organize the research and development of common technologies in the industry with the focus on green and low carbon; Third, how to strengthen policy coordination and upstream and downstream cooperation as a whole to implement various resource development plans; Fourth, how to promote cross industry cooperation focusing on construction steel and represented by prefabricated steel structure housing, so as to further expand the application of steel; Fifth, how to enrich communication means, improve communication methods and further enhance the social image of iron and steel.
