Membrane distillation (MD) uses heat to drive water vapor through the membrane to obtain high-quality clean water. It is not only a seawater desalination technology with great application prospects, but also a key core technology in many zero emission processes. However, the low flux of MD membrane is the main bottleneck restricting the wide application of this technology. The graphene membrane obtained by the scientific research team of Harbin Institute of technology provides a very short and fast transmission path for water vapor, which is one order of magnitude higher than the MD membrane flux reported so far, and the desalination rate is more than 99.8%. It shows great application potential and advantages in seawater desalination.
