In a recent tweet, Tesla CEO Elon Musk satirized that the media only focused on electric vehicle fire accidents and turned a blind eye to more fire accidents of fuel vehicles, saying that the internal combustion engine also has the tendency of external combustion.
A recent report by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) pointed out that there were an average of 3475 hybrid vehicle fires, 1530 fuel vehicle fires and 25 electric vehicle fires per 100000 vehicles sold.
Although the results of this report are very persuasive, the fire of electric vehicles still makes headlines because electric vehicles are still a relatively new technology, and anything negative or suspicious will help the media increase traffic.
Twitter user whole Mars catalog shared the information of the NTSB report over the weekend. Musk replied: "now that big car advertisers are making electric cars, you will see fewer articles about electric car fires. It is not surprising that internal combustion engines also tend to burn externally."
