In 2021, China’s shipbuilding capacity utilization monitoring index rose above the normal level for the first time since 2012

According to the news on the website of the Ministry of industry and information technology on January 30, according to the release of China Cssc Holdings Limited(600150) Industry Association, China’s shipbuilding capacity utilization monitoring index (CCI) was 742 points in 2021, an increase of 64 points compared with 2020, a year-on-year increase of 9.4%, rising above the normal level for the first time since 2012.

In the first quarter, the global container ship freight rose sharply, and the orders for new container ships increased explosively. Affected by the rapid rise of raw material prices, the indicators such as the main business income and profit margin of key monitoring shipbuilding enterprises decreased significantly month on month. At the end of the quarter, the CCI dropped slightly to 652 points, down 26 points from the fourth quarter of 2020.

In the second quarter, the international shipping market continued to pick up, the global new shipbuilding market continued to be active, and the price of new ships picked up steadily. It was mainly monitored that the orders of ships held by shipbuilding enterprises picked up for six consecutive months. At the end of the quarter, CCI gradually rebounded to 706 points, rising above the normal level for the first time since 2012.

In the third quarter, the comprehensive international shipping freight index increased by 40.6% month on month. The freight of container ships and bulk carriers continued to rise. It was mainly monitored that the orders of ships held by shipbuilding enterprises rebounded to more than 90 million dwt. At the end of the quarter, CCI rose rapidly to 752 points, the highest point in nearly nine years.

In the fourth quarter, the high shock of the international shipping market fell, and the inertia of the new ship price index rose. The key monitoring shipbuilding enterprises had sufficient orders and full production tasks, but the enterprise efficiency decreased year-on-year. At the end of the year, CCI fell back to 742 points, down 10 points month on month, and remained in the normal range.
